This beautiful barn wood chest starts with reclaimed wood that is 100 to 150 year old wood. The Midwest has thousands of barns no longer is use as they have been replaced with modern metal buildings. Many of the farmers loved their barns too much to tear them down so they just let they age gracefully as we are all aging gracefully. This creates an opportunity to repurpose this antique, weathered wood and turn it into something that will be used and cherished for decades to come.
This rustic barn wood chest is an example of what can be made from the salvaged woods. We are calling this new rustic line of furniture the "Touch of the West Collection”. The wording is perfect as it has just a subtle hint of western furniture design, but not enough to put it solely into this category. It is also "refined rustic or elegant rustic" and thus will fit nicely into cabin, cottage, ranch, mountain, Tuscan, Old World and even traditional home decors.
We (all the staff here at Woodland Creek) feel this design is really something special. Every now and then we will look at a new design and all agree it is a home run. Our entire staff loved this new design the minute it was set up. The layered reclaimed wood has varying gray and brown tones and is heavily textured. These accent details contrasts the more even brown hues of the barn wood underneath. This combination makes the detail pop out.
The furniture designer's use of a linear wood overlay design has similarities of what is seen in homes and businesses in pueblos in Mexico or out west. This rustic nightstand is not only beautiful, but is is also well built the sturdy wood drawer boxes have heavy duty ball bearing drawer glides. The drawer pulls are hand forged metal in a twisted design. Should you get any scratches in the top over years of use, you can touch up in seconds with a tinted wax. You will be passing this heirloom quality furniture down to your kids.
