      If it has an odor

Certain wood types have a distinctive smell that they emit throughout their life. Though we think they are wonderful and add an authentic rustic feel to any room, they aren’t everybody’s cup of tea. Ask your manufacturer if the wood used in a particular item is known to be odorous and make a more informed decision from there. We will say that red cedar is beautifully perfumed though!

    • How it has been constructed

Is your potential new furniture made by machine or hand? What joint types are used? Are any processes finished by hand? Where is your furniture made and is it to order or mass-produced and kept in stock? These are all important questions to ask, especially if the information is not clearly displayed on a product listing.

When made well and looked after, natural wood furniture can and frequently does last a lifetime! It gets passed down through generations of families for years to come. Always keep in mind that there is a relationship to be had with your pieces! So, research them thoroughly, give them a little love and they’ll delight you forever.
