  • A Farm Table Would Look Wonderful in your Kitchen

Farm tables were originally constructed to fulfill the most basic of needs. They are a sturdy piece of furniture serving several purposes – a place for the family to gather, eat and sometimes work. Its place is firmly planted in American history. If we scan all the important events that made America what it is today we will find a farm table as one of the participants.

I know what you are thinking; it’s just a table. Yes, it is but, the humble Farm table was there when the pilgrims sat down with the Native Americans for the fist Thanksgiving. It was on them the Declaration of Independence, Louisiana Purchase and the Emancipation Proclamation were penned and signed.

Every image we have of Abe Lincoln as a boy involves a kerosene lamp and a farm table. These tables saw civil war soldiers gathering around for planning battles and after the war was over, drinking in celebration. And with the exception of a bed the farm table was the first piece of furniture to grace the homes of settlers of the Wild West and Oregon Trail. Now, sociologists tell us when families sit down at the dinner table together the family unit is strengthened.

Perhaps I have woven too much history and romance into a simple table but, these tables have stood the test of time and now deserve an honored place in your home. The kitchen is a gathering place for most families and how wonderful would it be to have a piece of rustic furniture like a farm table in your kitchen?

Some would say that their kitchen or home is too modern for a table of that design. Our farm tables can be constructed to fit nearly any décor. They can be modernized with color, shape and the chairs you choose. The next time you are at a home show and they show a comfortable country kitchen or a kitchen with southern charm, a farm table will be there. Look in any of the kitchen design magazines, it doesn't matter if it’s a contemporary, early American or farm house design you will see how comfortably a farm table fits. Wouldn't a farm table look wonderful in your kitchen?

  • Farmhouse tables are made from real wood, not synthetics

What kind of tables do you have in your home? There is the one you got at the garage sale down the street. It is light weight, cheap and you think you got a good deal; until the veneer began to pull away from the frame. How about the kitchen table, the salesman says it was made of real wood. What he did not mention was it is actually made out of particle board. That’s real wood, right? Our Farmhouse dining tables are truly real wood tables!

Let’s get serious; you are finally at a time in your life where you can get quality products and not cheap imitations. This is the time to think about real wood. Woodland Creek rustic furniture is real wood. Not the used, glued and fused pieces that collapse when you put a casserole on it. Tables, chairs, beds and dressers made from the real McCoy.

Real Wood Farmhouse Tables can Handle Abuse!

The article of furniture that gets the most attention, use and abuse is the kitchen table. A real wood farmhouse table is the most basic and well built of kitchen tables. An authentic farmhouse table is made from real wood. It is not fashioned out of plastic that is made to look like wood or particle wood made to look like solid wood. We here at Woodland Creek do not make our tables out of any synthetics! These farmhouse tables are made to last not just your generation but, for generations to come.

The next time you are out looking for furniture start asking the sales staff questions. If you don’t like high pressure sales or hovering sales people these questions and those like them will make them disappear; perhaps never to be seen again. ‘Is this real wood?’ ‘What type of synthetics is used to build this furniture?’ ‘If this table is real wood, why are you talking about a beautiful veneer finish?’

I suppose I shouldn’t be so hard on furniture sales people but, if they know their products they will know real wood when they see it. Synthetic materials will try to fool you by looking like wood; however, they will not last as long as real wood. Furthermore, it certainly won’t look as good. Come see our farmhouse table collection at Woodland Creek. Once you have seen our real wood tables you won’t settle for anything else.

Conversation, better described as communication, a vital ingredient in any group, happens at the dinner table. Work ethics are born at the table; one of the child’s first contributions to the family is to help set the table.

  • Why Farmhouse Kitchen Tables Last Longer

When I think back to the type of kitchen table my family grew up with my stomach gets tied up in knots. If you grew up in the 1950’s and 60’s you will remember them well. Some people like to think of them as ‘Retro’. You know the kind, chrome plated, ugly heavy gauge tubular steel and the crowning disaster was the high pressure laminate tops. People who have this type of furniture say that it gives an old room a new personality; however,  I think not. I believe that a classic farmhouse kitchen tables give the room that bit of personality!

I remember so many unpleasant things about those types of tables. One such thing, I can remember the cherry Kool-Aid stain that even bleach wouldn't get out. When my sister was little she used to bang her spoon on the side of the table for attention. The marks she made were still there when my folks sold it at a garage sale 12 years later. The cracks in the laminate top looked like varicose veins and the scorched spot where my Dad put a hot pot looked like a giant stale croissant. It was a wonder how anybody could still have an appetite looking at that table.Link to a Farmhouse Dining Table
