You’ve invested in the gorgeous sideboards, matching bookcases and even plumped for the finest sofa suite money can buy! However, what about all those tiny little finishing touches? 1. Solid wood mirrors

Not only are mirrors useful, they can make a space look twice the size it is! When a mirror is placed in the right spot and they honestly fill a wall so much more elegantly than a picture or some shabby paintwork. Solid wood mirrors will never age or date your room, because they are such a staple classic and if you make sure they are stained to match the rest of your timber pieces, will create a really harmonious interior design look.

2. Doorstop Decor

This is a strange tip because you probably won’t ever notice that you’re missing attractive doorstops; however, once you have them, you’ll understand how ‘together’ they make your home look. No more using an old slipper, a rolled up newspaper or a rogue piece of cardboard to keep a door open, as a stylish doorstop does all the hard work for you and tells guests how detail orientated you are too.

3. Beautiful lamps

So your main lighting is working and doing what it’s supposed to, that’s great! However, nothing beats turning off the main beam in favour of some ambient lamp lighting in the evening. Add in the fact that pretty lamps make the most of a side or coffee table. Furthermore, they inject so much coziness too and you’ll see why you need a couple. Try mixing things up with a blend of floor and table lamps with natural shades for a rustic vibe.

4. Scented candles for home decor

Diffusers can be a little aggressive and they rarely look attractive either; which is why for the perfect scent of a welcoming home, you need to stay old school and invest in some candles. Yankee Candles are, of course, a longstanding favourite with a scent for just about everything. Try mixing up your fragrances according to different rooms, with fresh linen in the bedrooms and maybe a sea salt note for the bathroom. 

5. Seasonal flowers

Nothing says ‘I take pride in my home’ quite like seasonal blooms out on display, all year round. You don’t have to go crazy; but, a vase in the entrance hall is a nice touch, maybe some small posies in guest rooms and always a good sprig in the living room too. The reason flowers work so well is that they offer a multisensory pleasure; plus, they bring a little of the glorious outdoors inside for everybody to enjoy.  These small but significant touches will ensure that your home looks and feels perfect, whoever should drop by! This leaves you to just carry out an emergency pillow fluff when the doorbell rings.
